Springtime Savings — Part II

Last week shared with you some ways to save money as your clean for Spring. Making home improvements and/or maintaining your home is also important.

We find often as families prepare their home for the market, they are overwhelmed due to the day-to-day maintenance not addressed while occupying the property. I don’t place judgement because I get it — when living day-to-day life, we are busy and these small items go unnoticed and then next thing we know, they are big projects!

Spring is a good time to inspect your home for cracked or chipped paint. Scrape out those areas and repaint. Also check the caulk around your tubs, windows, exterior doorways. It is important to scrape and reseal those areas to prevent deterioration of wood and inside walls. You can also save lots of $$ by washing and sealing the wood fences and decks. By maintaining, you help minimize the wood’s expansion and contraction. We can all drive our neighborhood and see the homes that have not done so and visualize the damage it can do.

These are just a couple of maintenance items you can perform yourself to save you money! If you have questions or tips you wish to share on how to save money, please contact me — Roxann: 618-604-5585.

How to Save with Springtime Home Improvements

Spring has sprung and we often think about Spring Cleaning! I know growing up, Spring meant washing the windows, putting in a garden, mowing lawn and cleaning out closets. What does Spring cleaning mean to you and how can you get the job done without spending a fortune?

When spring cleaning, sometimes it can be overwhelming so it helps to bring it down room by room and do a project every day. In preparing, a lot of people are very conscious of the environment and if you have children, you too wish to pare down their exposure to chemicals. Did you know that it only takes a few ingredients to make your own cleaning arsenal?

For wood furniture, mix 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil with 1/4 cup white vinegar. Dab with a cloth and polish. Add Baking Soda. Sprinkle a half-cup of baking soda around the toilet bowl and scrub with a toilet brush. Windows: I clean windows with a spray bottle full of vinegar diluted half and half with water. All Purpose cleaner: Most things can be cleaned with a bucket full of warm water with either a squirt of a good, safe, non-toxic dish soap or a splash of vinegar. Instead of paper towels, I use newspaper with my solution to clean windows for a streak-free effort. Or old towels, t-shirts are also an alternative.

O’Fallon Police Force

On my way into the office today, there apparently was a car accident prior to my arrival at the Greenmount Road/Hwy. 50 intersection. Now we all know how this can create havoc with a morning commute. However, thanks to the O’Fallon police force, I was able to move smoothly right through the intersection without incident! Thank you!

Did you know that our police department recently added three new officers to patrol/secure our growing community making a total of 50 men in blue protecting our community? The O’Fallon police department has full certification, which is a significant goal achieved by the department! With our ever growing community, O’Fallon is taking the steps to ensure our safety on and off the roads.

Speaking of roads, keep an eye out and find alternative routes as resurfacing is planned from Witte Farms, around Thornbury Hills, Timber Oak, Smiley, Wesley and the ongoing project at Southview Gardens.
